finding inspiration

I overheard an artsy person say that sometimes they seek pain or stay in loneliness for them to be able to create art. Grief is conducive to creativeness and the most beautiful poem, picture, painting is created by the most tortured soul. Amusingly, some are self inflicted though. I've never thought of myself as creative although i really admire those who are. I also wanna create something beautiful, passionate... hmm, so i guess that means i should torture myself? LOL

On second though, i don't think the tortured soul EMO kid suits my personality, i guess I'll have to find inspiration elsewhere. But really sometimes i wonder, what goes on in the minds of these people. Europe is the haven for creative people, no mass cloning there, everybody was doing their own thing. You can see it in their clothes, style, music, streets, i miss that. It's like they have so much depth and personality.

Say it's too late when your already dead. But by then, you wont even have the time to say it. Now, that's TOO LATE!

I guess anybody can be creative if armed with Instagram. INSTA-GENUISPHOTOGRAPHER.

I'm kidding.

I love street art that makes you think. Use your wit. Don't let it get rusty.

Now Banksy for me really is the master. He's sense of humor is so dry and sarcastic, just the way i like it. Some people find graffiti a nuisance, i find it, well a nuisance if it doesn't mean anything, but if its intelligently made, a welcomed surprise while walking along the street. I totally believe Banksy is a genius in the most peculiar way. TOTALLY. (trying to sound like an airhead)

Now back to POP Culture :) Up next... LMFAO! lol.

picks for Oscars 2012

I was looking through the photos of the recently concluded Academy Awards and of course, being the clotheshorse that I am, it was the gowns that I noticed.

I'm partial to neutral colors nowadays, a lot of beige, tan, grays, skin tone and whites. So of course this obsession with neutrals translated to the gowns i swooned over in the Oscars.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford surely never fails. Her style, always classic and crisp is always one of my favorites both for evening wear and casual wear.
Mila Jovovich looked elegant in her Elie Saan fully embellished gown that looked sexy yet understated.
Berenice Bejo in my opinion also looked stunning in her Elie Saab mint green gown, but i prefer the gown in white though. (as seen beside her picture)
Kate Mara in Jack Guisso Couture also looked stunning in her vintage inspired embellished gown. I love the skin tone color and the arm draping. The old school feel makes it look so glamorous and Old Hollywood.
Rooney Mara also looked stunning in her white Givenchy gown paired with red lipstick and blunt dark hair. It kind of looks goth glam. It's very different from the usual Oscars' look which made it stand out.
Another gown that caught my fancy was Kristen Wiig's J. Mendel gown. It was beige and ethereal looking, very wispy and sweet.

I noticed that in a way, I'm liking the same look over and over again. The vintage, lace or embellishments, long sleeves in neutral colors. I think it's just sexy, sexier than the revealing gowns some actresses wore or those with loud colors that kind off screams. I think the muted ones gives a look of understated elegance, a quiet but powerful look.

L.O.V.E.

A former professor of mine wrote this, i think its quite a touching short story that depicts TRUE LOVE in the simplest sense and i wanna share it because i totally agree with what he wrote. Love is in fact, in its truest form the most unselfish of all. This is quite touching.

Someone asked me once, "Isn't unrequited love hard? Doesn't it kill you to love someone so near, but still feel like you're miles away?"

It took me a while to answer, but I took in a big breath, and answered this...

"It is, but that's the beautiful thing about loving someone so beautiful. They don't need to do anything to make you happy... they just do...

"Its like when you look at flowers. Flowers just stand there and sway in the sun and the wind... but in our eyes, they can be the most beautiful things God ever made. The fact they're there in front of you... it's a darn miracle!

"But I can't expect that flower to do anything for me in return. It can't love me back. I can't force it to do anything beyond shining in front of my eyes. They just radiate that beauty, and all I can really do is smile when they're there."

"...Love is like that. It's beautiful, and it revels in the joy of that person's being. It's unselfish that way."

I heart MNL

Just when i thought that Manila is such a bore, i come across this little space.

It's an ode to Valentines day couples and some singles made. Love letters posted on the walls, some romantic, some cute and some downright funny.

Some of the letters/notes that made me smile and laugh.
"salamat sa pagiging makulet, bugnutin at sumpungin mo, kung ndi dahil syo ndi ma-test kung gano kahaba patience ko..."
"Valentines does not exist... Bro hug to self"
"Love of my life, when are u going to love me?"
"Baby you light up my world like nobody else"
"Mahal kita kaso manloloko ka!!! :(" That's a WINNER right there!:(" laughed hysterically at this.
"MAHAL KITA, MANHID KA LANG" That made me laugh also. Some people are so funny. Seriously.
"Mahal na mahal kita, sana matagpuan na kita -Romeo ; I'm already here, where are you -Juliet"

Awww. who would have thought Manila is this cute???! I had a super fun time reading the letters and notes people made to each other. Quite corny i know, but i am a corny person at times. It doesn't take a lot to make me laugh, and well it doesn't also take a lot to annoy me. hahaha. I was quite charmed upon seeing that place. I wish i can discover some other interesting places in Manila. Maybe i should head on over to Cubao X. Heard there's a lot of interesting knick knacks going on there.

addiction

I like my money where i can see it... hanging in my closet!:)

So i guess that explains my bank account.... :/ LOL

The irony of it all is that all the money i make from selling clothes i spend on buying clothes too. I guess we really are our own customers (right, Daisy?) hahahaha.

a little bit of Lent.

After a brutal breakup, a young man vows to stay celibate during the 40 days of Lent, but finds the girl of his dreams and is unable to do anything about it.

This movie is hilarious when people found out about his Lent sacrifice they held a bet which got out of hand to the extent that girls are tempting and teasing him and willing to sleep with him just so they can win the bet. A must-see just in time for the Lenten season.

Aside from the fact that Josh Hartnett is still a fox here.

Wondering if i should do some sacrificing too. LOL:)

my one wish.

I bought a DARUMA doll (wishing doll) in Japan. The doll is said to bring you luck and prosperity, encouraging you to always persevere in making your wish come true.

When you buy the doll it still has no eyes, now when you make a wish you will draw one eye. That one eye you drew is said to be the one to keep an eye on your wish or goal. When your wish comes true, you fill in the other eye. I think the one eye being filled out will also remind you that your wish hasn't been fulfilled yet. It's a very popular tradition in Japan and every year during New Year's eve, everybody brings their dolls to the temple to burn and get new ones.

I only bought one because i didn't want to make too many wishes. One is enough. When you wish for so many things, you end up not valuing what you get if it does come true. And when you only have one, you will really think hard what your gonna use the doll for, you'll end up wishing for what you really want.

I haven't used my doll yet until now because I've been pondering what to wish for. (conyoproblem) LOL. I wanna try it out tonight though because i'm feeling japanese right now. Let's see how that goes.

question mark

.

Life is about choice. We are the sum of our choices. And most of them are made for us. You can't choose when you're born. You can't choose where you are born. You can't choose your family. You can't even choose who you love. But you can choose how you love.

Richard Cooper (I think I love my wife)

happy fridays

In darkness there is always light.

too many choices

I bought 10 DVD's to watch over the weekend. I'm planning on watching one tonight but i cannot decide which one. Will be relying on the movie tag lines to decide! (Yes, i'm quite indecisive... i flip a coin, guess a hand, whatever... to help me decide. I'm weird that way. LOL)

1. Wuthering Heights "LOVE IS A FORCE OF NATURE" - pwede pwede!!:p

2. New Year's Eve "LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN" - hmmm... a bit bland if you ask me.

3. Footloose "THERE COMES A TIME TO CUT LOOSE" - sounds excites! a bit too friday night for me.

4. Safe House "NO ONE IS SAFE" - Woah. brutal much?

5. A Dangerous Method "BASED ON THE TRUE STORY OF JUNG, FREUD AND THE PATIENT WHO CAME BETWEEN THEM" - Scandalous!!! but who's Jung??? no idea.

6. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo "WHAT IS HIDDEN IN THE SNOW, COMES FORTH IN THE THAW" - Say WHUUT??? deep ha.

7. The Descendants "A NOVEL" - Oh wow! more creativity please.. next!

8. Segunda Mano "none" - I guess its not uso to put one in filipino movies.

9. Real Steel "COURAGE IS STRONGER THAN STEEL" - Interesting, plus with great reviews.

10. Perfect Sense "WITHOUT LOVE THERE IS NOTHING" - Now that's a statement.

Still can't decide though. Will random shuffle it.

my thoughts on books.

People are sometimes like books, if the first 2 pages doesn't strike you, why bother reading the whole thing? The first two pages are CRUCIAL. It's suppose to be the "hook". I've often ditched countless of books, be it award winners or chic lits because of the first 2 pages. I mean, i'm reading this for pleasure and i'm not exactly pleased with what i'm reading, why then should i take the trouble to read more with the hopes that it will get better in the middle? What if it doesn't? I mean, there are countless of books out there, why submit yourself and force yourself to read this one. Unless of course its compulsory like school books. But seriously, just because you already have the book, doesn't mean you have to succumbed yourself into reading it, and by golly even finishing it because you've already gone that far into it.

You've already wasted your money, now you plan on wasting your time too?

STOP. Put that book down. for dramatic purpose throw it in the rubbish for all i care. Go to the bookstore and look for another book to read.

There are so many books out there that touches your spirit, teaches you something valuable, inspires you. Something that once you read, will change you forever. You will never be the same person again and it will change your perception, your vision, your attitude. Or maybe it will be the chic lit that would just bring you a few giggles and laugh, some little happiness to cheer you up. Nevertheless, it HAS to bring you something, some kind of change, of emotion other than boredom of course.
I mean its boring not to be doing anything but its really tragic to be bored while doing something you supposedly like, like reading.

Because once you found the right book, something that brings you a great deal of happiness or something that inspires you, you will be asking yourself, What the hell was i doing reading that other one? ARGHHH.

Different strokes for different folks. (but these are examples of what i dumped and what i kept):

DUMPED:

1. Chasing Harry Winston
2. The House of Spirits
3. The Shack

*yes, i know these were all "bestsellers" wasn't sold though, sorry.*

KEPT:

1. Something borrowed ( It's hilarious! sorry)
2. Lolita
3. Memoirs of a Geisha
4. Tuesdays with Morrie
*not my ultimate favorites, just ticked off some i really enjoyed reading*

what the world needs now...

It's not the wedding that matters it's the marriage that counts...

One of my favorite love stories is the story of my parents. They are the epitome of the marriage and family i want in the future. Up until now, still very affectionate and happy together. My dad who often bugs my mom endlessly and my mom who always pretends that she's annoyed with my dad but just secretly wants to be pursued and "lambing". My dad still showers my mom with presents, just like when he was courting her almost 30 years ago and my mom still patiently stands by my dad through his moodiness and hitler ways. They bicker and make fun each other like friends and stand by each other like husband and wife. The funny thing is, they are completely opposite in personality, but i guess the combination made it quite perfect, it works. My dad is the silent, controlling, straight arrow homebody, while my mom is the dancing, social butterfly party peeps! LOL

(The outfit kindda says it all.. for both of them hahaha)
“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

How my parents met is also part of cuteness of that story. My mom worked at Levis in Harisson Plaza Mall near DLSU where my dad is a student and also a nearby resident. During those times, stealing jeans was kind off rampant according to my mom so she was very suspicious of my dad who keeps coming back to the store to try on jeans. She thought he was trying to steal something and kept a close watch on him (hahaha). Needless to say, my dad after several visits finally got the courage to talk to my mom and the rest is history as they say.

Happy Valentines Day to my wonderful parents!!! may you always continue to be a bright example to us, your kids.

Our inspiration and aspiration.

didn't we almost have it all

God gave you foresight to look ahead, to contemplate your actions, before making destiny changing choices. So annoying that sometimes the right thing to do is sometimes the hardest... But i really do believe that our lives are shaped by our choices in life. Left, Right, Go, No Go, and that at one point in our lives we will look back and realize the different points in our lives where we had to make a choice and how that choice would completely change the direction of our life.

We, my dad and I were talking about the demise of Whitney Houston, so much talent and promise, but because of a couple of bad choice, one of which is coupling up with Bobby Brown, lost herself to self destruction. Such a waste. Two of my most favorite singers are gone now, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Sometimes i wonder why the most promising and most talented people, people who have the world at their feet succumbed to self destructive ways when they should be at the top of the world with happiness??? Do they not see how lucky they are? Maybe they lack appreciation, contentment i don't know. Just musing.

My favorite Whitney Songs:

1. Saving all my love for you
2. Run to you
3. One moment in time
4. I have nothing
5. Where do broken hearts go
6. Didn't we almost have it all
7. All at once
8. When you believe
9. Count on me
10. I will always love you

Thank you for giving us wonderful memories through your music. Rest in peace.

give a little more love

"Love doesn't die a natural death. Love has to be killed, either by neglect or narcissism. Those guilty of these two crimes of the heart always hide behind excuses convenient; too ashamed, lacking in integrity and courage to face the truth. To them, it is always something other than their own actions, desires and self-importance that dictate circumstances. For these people, so blind to truth, true love can never be fully experienced for they have never really given of themselves all that they are."

Frank Salvato

Isn't she lovely????

I rarely, well almost never have celebrity boy crushes but on the other hand, i always have girl celebrity crushes. (i hope this does not mean anything other than i can appreciate beautiful women... yikes!) I've been eyeing (goodness, the term!) Olivia Palermo for awhile now. I think she is the epitome of classy chic, our very own Audrey Hepburn but more relaxed and modern. Her facial features are very regal and elegant, add her impeccable taste in fashion and boom we have a new it-girl.(Well, for me at least)

Looking at Olivia Palermo and her style proves to us that girls don't have to show so much skin in order to look sexy and more does not necessarily mean less. Compared to other celebrities this day and age who are all about showing off their bodies, Olivia Palermo stands out because of her classy and not trashy style.

Can i just reiterate, i am so in love with this girl! <3

She is just so lovely! :) *swoooon* for the girl and the outfits. LOL

the sweetest thing.

"A succesful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person" -- Mignon Mclaughlin

My super good friend Haidee just got engaged last night and this, being the first ever proposal i witnessed, i am beyond excited and giddy for the couple.

The guy, Kenny flew in from Singapore and decided to give Haidee a very memorable surprise proposal with the collaboration of her good friends. It was the first full moon of the year, and the setting was just perfect since its a rooftop. Rose petals were scattered on the floor, along with balloons and candles.

Everyone was freaking out when we were told that the couple has arrived, even the boys holding the the "Will you marry me" signs were freaking out due to the excitement. They even have a countdown when to turn around holding their sign. LOL.

It was the proposal every girl dreams of, much love and effort was given to make it happen. I'm so happy for both haidee and kenny, both very good and loving people who deserves the best in life, they are both very lucky to have found each other. :)

To Kenny and Haidee, may your life together be filled with love and happiness always. Congratulations again!!!:)
*yes, im a sucker for romance and happy endings!*
